Traditional Japanese dolls displayed at LHU

An exhibition themed "Traditional Japanese dolls" (Hina Matsuri) was displayed at LHU on March 1, 2024 attracting more than 1,000 pupils from Lac Hong Bilingual School and more than 100 students of LHU. The exhibition organized by the Department of Japanese Studies under the Faculty of Oriental Studies, LHU also saw the presence of two special speakers Nguyen Tu Tuan and Nguyen Thi Phong Nha.

The event ran all day, including two main activities: Exhibition and Origami workshop

Traditional Japanese dolls displayed at the event

The exhibition displayed nearly 200 Japanese dolls exquisitely crafted from many different materials such as wood, paper, ceramic, fabric... Each doll is a work of art, carrying stories and distinctive cultural values.

Visitors had the opportunity to explore gorgeous dolls depicting various characters such as Royal dolls, Ichimatsu dolls, Kimekomi dolls, Kokeshi dolls, Echizen bamboo dolls,... recreating the traditional holiday decoration ritual. They also learned about the history of the Doll Festival and the characteristics of different types of dolls by genre and region.

After exploring the exhibition, visitors had the chance to try on the art of paper folding Origami and take home cute paper dolls.

The "Japanese Dolls" exhibition gave visitors an opportunity to experience the special culture and traditions of Japanese dolls from the Edo period. Beside helping visitors learn more about the traditional Japanese culture, the exhibition contributes to strengthening the friendship between Vietnam and Japan.
