LHU's key role in driving Breakthroughs in National Science and Technology Development, Innovation, and Digital Transformation

On March 21, 2025, LHU delegates honorably attended and presented at the Scientific Conference "Implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on Breakthroughs in National Science and Technology Development, Innovation, and Digital Transformation in Dong Nai province - Expert perspectives", while deploying Plan No. 433-KH/TU dated February 28, 2025 of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee. The Conference was jointly organized by Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

Dong Nai is one of the most dynamic economic and industrial hubs in southern Vietnam. It is also home to several prestigious higher education institutions that not only meet local students' educational needs but also play a crucial role in developing human resources to serve the country's industrialization and modernization.

Among them, LHU is recognized as an application-oriented university, known for its excellence in training in engineering, technology, healthcare, economics, and languages. The University prioritizes scientific research, technology transfer, and international collaboration.

“As a center of knowledge, the university plays a key role in driving breakthroughs in national science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation. Through applied research, high-quality human resource training, and business collaboration, it not only creates new knowledge but also transforms technology and digital solutions into real-life applications, shaping the knowledge economy and contributing to the sustainable development of the country”, Dr. Lam Thanh Hien, Rector of LHU, shared this insight as LHU had the honor of delivering a presentation at the Conference.

Through its presentation, LHU proposed five key initiatives:

- "Province-wide education" on AI, Digital Transformation, and Innovation: LHU will be a core unit, collaborating with other universities to continuously provide training for residents, businesses, and schools in the area.

- Promoting collaborations with businesses: "University-business partnerships is not just a bridge between knowledge and practice but also a driving force for innovation and sustainable development", including the strong engagement from local authorities. LHU has been developing a living lab model, providing spaces for businesses to set up facilities for joint research and development.

- Developing inter-regional transportation infrastructure: Well-developed transportation infrastructure naturally attracts investors to Dong Nai. "Vietnam’s transportation infrastructure is like a patchwork quilt - some areas are modern and well-developed, while others remain fragmented, narrow, and overloaded. Expansion and upgrades are crucial to meet the growth demands".

- Transforming Long Thanh into an airport city: "An airport city is a complete ecosystem that is not only a gateway to global connectivity but also a driving force of economic, cultural, and technological growth, turning ambitious dreams into reality”.

- Research on the development of the mid-low altitude economy: This includes economic activities conducted below 1,000 meters (expandable up to 3,000 meters depending on regional characteristics), with low-altitude flight operations using both manned and unmanned aerial vehicles to promote integration and growth across related sectors.

+ Low-altitude air transport and mobility, including air taxis and drone delivery.

+ Smart agriculture, using drones for crop monitoring, pesticide spraying, and soil testing.

+ Environmental protection and disaster management, using aerial devices for forest monitoring, wildfire detection, and flood control.

+ Security and defense using drones and low-altitude aerial vehicles for border surveillance and security patrols.

+ Aerial tourism and recreation, including sightseeing flights and aerial sports.

  • The growth of the mid-low altitude economy will foster the aviation industry, flight control technologies, spatial data, and related fields, making significant contributions to the digital economy and innovation.

  • Well-deserved recognition

  • The honor of presenting at the conference reflects local leaders' recognition of LHU's recent contributions to innovation, scientific research, and especially digital transformation which have created real-world values. This contributes to realizing objectives outlined in Resolution No. 57. This is also an opportunity to spread LHU’s development model and educational vision as an internationally standardized application-oriented university.
