Faculty of Civil Engineering  "Creativity Bridge" contest in 2022

For the subjects from the foundation to the major, Learning rograme is designed with a theoretical form to the parallel practice. In addition to learning in class, the students will be taken to construction to observe the building equivalent to each lesson that they gain in class. Teaching and learning through learning outside the work is mainly to bring novelty and excitement to students during their study at the Faculty.

1. Object, quantity

- Audience: union members, members of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the invited team.

- Quantity: Each team consists of 3-5 members (register with BTC).

2. Time and place of organization:

- Time: 07h30 - 12h00, November 28, 2022 (Tentative).

- Location: Laboratory I107, campus 6 of the Center for Science and Technology Application of Lac Hong University.

3. General provisions

- Compete in turn in the order drawn. Costume: KTCT Faculty T-shirt, dark trousers.

4. Exam format

The participating teams are provided by the Organizing Committee (BTC) with 50 bamboo sticks 60cm long (Ø3mm), and 01 bottle of 502 glue (as shown below). Construction tools (ruler, pen, scissors, knife, ...) are prepared by the teams themselves.

Each team of 3-5 members with the materials provided as shown above creates a truss model with a length of 60 cm, a minimum width of 10 cm, and a height of your choice. The team that owns the lightest frame but can withstand the heaviest force will be the winner.

* Note:

- The length of the bridge is not less than 50cm and not more than 60cm. If you are outside the size specified above, you will not be allowed to participate in the contest. Only up to 3 glued bars are allowed to be joined together.

- The main structure of the bridge must use bamboo slats with the specified size and glue, the teams do not use any other materials than what the organizers provide). (BTC will weigh the volume of the structure before the exam).

- The load is placed in the middle of the bridge structure (the bridge's horizontal surface) the crews prepare the hook or the position to hook the load. Conduct mid-span loading and gradually load until it is destroyed. If the teams have the same number of points, the Head of the Competition Jury is the final decision maker on the ranking results of the competing teams after consulting and agreeing with the Jury.

5. Scoring Criteria

- Structural aesthetics: account for 10% of the score.

- Presentation: Each team will prepare a presentation within 03 minutes to present the structure made, the presentation will be scored by the Jury, accounting for 20% of the score.

- Practical part: Loading teams are in the middle of the span and slowly increase the load until the structure is destroyed, accounting for 70% of the points. The points of the competition team will only be recognized when the structure is correct. In each group, the teams with the highest total points will be selected for awards.

- If the teams have the same number of points, the Head of the Competition Jury is the one who makes the final decision on the ranking results of the competing teams after consulting and agreeing with the Jury.

6. Other provisions

Copying from other works is strictly prohibited. The works must be new, unused in any way and have not won prizes in other competitions.

In the event of a claim regarding team membership, the appeal must be made before the competition being held. BTC is the final decision maker on whether or not to accept the complained member to participate in the contest.

All complaints and questions about the test scoring will only be resolved including: adding wrong scores; scoring is not in accordance with the set criteria; score missing content in the scoreboard.

Complaints and questions only the team captain has the right to report to the BTC.
